General Manager, founder

My parents have committed to promote sustainable agriculture since I was a child. They built up many fair trade projects in undeveloped country. When I was sixteen, my father bought me to Peru visiting small farmers from their projects.  I was impressed how those projects changed people’s life. Since that, it has become my dream to create something to help other people.

I was saving up for a journey and wish to explore the world one day. When I was 20, I left my home town, living in different country, studying their local languages and trying to understand the local culture.

During my journey, I met my wife Karen, Iman Cheong. Together, we have chosen to root our project in chiangmai, Thailand. Year 2009, we founded Omatti with the philosophy of “Design for fair trade”.

Karen Iman Cheong

Design director, founder

Starting from the memory of my childhood – my mother take care of me and my sister while sewing at home. Wearing the beautiful clothes made by my mom filled my childhood of love.

My creativity started by writing poem and novel. But not long time after, I found my interested and talent on garment, tailoring clothes and bags.  I believe love and passion can transmit through product, while the producers enjoy doing it. We wish all Omattiwomen are happy and proud in their work and this is one of the principles of our project.

In 2009 we founded Omatti, we co-operate with a group of women in a small village of Thailand, blending the local handcraft and traditional techniques with our exclusive design. The concept of Omatti is to manufacture without factory.

Our member work from home, they can stay with their family and villagers while working, farming their own rice and vegetable. The flexibility of work helps them went through many difficult moments. When we saw the happiness on their faces, we understand Omatti has became our mission.

In these years, we have seen our women became initiative and confident. Thanks for many helps and supports, Omatti has grown beyond our expectation.

In year 2011, we launched Omatti design studio. We have designed for farming project, non-profit association, government cultural project and also supermarket chain… in Switzerland, Germany and Asia.
