Our Story
Omatti was established in April 2009. Now the company has representation in five countries and has 16 shops.
- 2009 – Omatti established; Our first street market
- 2010 – Started cooperate with Erboristi Lendi (Organic herbs company in Switzerland).
- 2011 – Omatti design studio launched Exhibited in Swiss film festival event – La rotonda (Ticino)
- 2012 – Started cooperate with DWP (fair trade company in Germany) Exhibited in Swiss film festival event – La rotonda (Ticino)
- 2013 – Exhibited in Swiss film festival event – La rotonda (Ticino) Exhibited in 25 fair years DWP 2013
- 2014 – Omatti in ‘Ornaris Zurich’
Omatti is our own brand company based in Switzerland and established in 2009 by Claudio Lendi and Karen I Man Cheong.
5 years ago, we started with building up en e-shop and doing few street markets. We’ve found our aim and mission. Now, we are responsible from product design, production, marketing and backup support (training and facility) for our members.
With the philosophy of “Design for fair trade”, we cooperate with artisans and small producers in developing countries. We merge the traditional culture and craft skill with our exclusive design. Every year, we organize different events to promote our high quality products and the stories behind, and share those exiting moment with our producers. Producers are so proud to see their products stand out in the commercial market and having an important stable income.
What does ‘Omatti’ mean?
The meaning of omatti is coming from Italian ‘Siamo matti’. It means ‘we are crazy’. ‘We are small in the world, but we can make things change, if we try to.’

Brief training before production
To ensure production will be processed smoothly, we have a brief training between designer and all members before every production start. It is a very important step to maintain high quality of all products. .

This year 19-21 January we were in Ornaris, Zurich presenting the newest collection of 2014. It was important for omatti and also for our women group (producers) to meet those people and shops. ..

I am the cooks of the workshop. Members create products; we create tasty food. When there is a special occasion, everybody from the village come to help. We feel satisfy when people say “Aroi!” (Tasty in Thai language).
Design is a way of communication
We create our products with love and passion. The greatest satisfaction in this project is those messages can be transmitted through our products.
Everybody has his own merits and demerits!
I can’t sew straight, but perfectly on the curve. I am very happy that this workshop gives scope for my abilities.
If you are calm, you can do well your job.
30th years I have been working on textile industry. Making bags and accessory became part of my life. I like to work in the workshop. I can choose the time and the amount to work freely, and also the process, which I love to.
